經文：「只管站住，看耶和華今天向你們所要施行的救恩。」（出14:13） 這節經文對於那些曾經遭受大難，陷入絕境的聖徒們；在他們左右爲難不知該如何脫離的時候，神給予了他們非常明確的指示：「只管站住」。 在這種情形之下，唯有聽神的話才能得救。否則魔鬼的試探，及其它的建議將紛至沓來，或許： 「絕望」小聲地說：「放棄一切，躺下來等死吧！」但是神要我們鼓起勇氣又充滿樂觀與希望。即便在最危難的時刻，也要因為祂的仁慈與信實而歡欣。 「懦弱」也許會說：「向後退卻，退回到世俗的辦法中，你不配作基督徒，這實在是太難了，放棄你的信仰吧！」如果你真是神的子民，無論魔鬼如何催促你採取世俗的方法你都不會聽從。神命令你努力再努力地向前進，你就應該遵行。無論前方是死亡或地獄，都不能改變你前進的方向。神若吩咐你站住一會兒，只為讓你增添新的力量，以便在適當的時刻奔向更遠的前程。 「急躁」誘惑你說：「行動積極才算有所作爲，站住等待全是無聊浪費」。如此我們就想若要愈快有所作爲，就必須先下手行動，於是也就停止仰望神了。殊不知神要你站住，是為了讓你不只有所作爲，還為勝利臨到做準備。 「傲慢」誇口地說：「假若海洋擋在你的面前，先沖過去，再求奇蹟的出現！」。但是信心對於傲慢，絕望，懦弱，和急躁等試探所說的一概不聽，只聽神的吩咐；「只管站住」，堅定不移，如同磐石。 「只管站住」，以昂然直立的姿態準備行動，期待下一步，喜樂而謹慎地等候神的指引。不久，神就會對你像摩西對以色列民那樣清晰地說：「往前走」。--司布真 Spurgeon 在還沒有把握的時候，你要等待。在心中有任何疑惑的時候，也要等待，不要勉強作任何行動。假如你的心靈正受到約束，就該等待直到一切澄清，不要故意違抗。 新譯｜荒漠甘泉讀書會

Scripture: "Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord" (Exod. 14:13). These words contain God's command to the believer when he is reduced to great straits and brought into extraordinary difficulties. He cannot retreat; he cannot go forward; he is shut upon the right hand and on the left. What is he now to do? The Master's word to him is "stand still." It will be well for him if, at such times, he listens only to his Master's word, for other and evil advisers come with their suggestions. Despair whispers, "Lie down and die; give it all up." But God would have us put on a cheerful courage, and even in our worst times, rejoice in His love and faithfulness. Cowardice says, "Retreat; go back to the worldling's way of action; you cannot play the Christian's part; it is too difficult. Relinquish your principles." But, however much Satan may urge this course upon you, you cannot follow it, if you are a child of God. His Divine fiat has bid thee go from strength to strength, and so thou shalt, and neither death nor hell shall turn thee from thy course. What if for a while thou art called to stand still; yet this is but to renew thy strength for some greater advance in due time. Precipitancy cries, "Do something; stir yourself; to stand still and wait is sheer idleness." We must be doing something at once--we must do it, so we think--instead of looking to the Lord, who will not only do something, but will do everything. Presumption boasts, "If the sea be before you, march into it, and expect a miracle." But faith listens neither to Presumption, nor to Despair, nor to Cowardice, nor to Precipitancy, but it hears God say, "Stand still," and immovable as a rock it stands. "Stand still"--keep the posture of an upright man, ready for action, expecting further orders, cheerfully and patiently awaiting the directing voice; and it will not be long ere God shall say to you, as distinctly as Moses said it to the people of Israel, "Go forward.' --Spurgeon In times of uncertainty, wait.
